Drama continues to follow me. I moved out of the previous apartment to get away from the craziness, but one of the movers I hired to get me out of the apartment has now became a problem of his own. A week after my move he started texting me. I replied the first time because I thought it might be a friend in California, and the mover’s area code 718 at a glance made me mistaken it for 714 for Orange county in CA; 718 might also be another friend in the greater NY area, she texts from an app, so her phone numbers are usually different each time. Also, I have made so many calls those couple of weeks, for various affairs to orchestrate my move, I wasn’t sure if it was a greeting I should ignore; it was just a “Hi. How are you.” So I replied, “who is this?” just to make sure. Then the trouble started.
I gently rejected him; expressed that I was not interested and thanked his flattery. He said he understood, and will not bother me again. Then two days later, he texted again. I ignored it. However, in the last 2 weeks, he continued to text me once every few days. “Hi,” “How are you,” “Hey,” “U mad,” etc desperately trying to start a conversation; I ignored all of them. Last night, he was at it again, I finally made one more attempt to stop him. Since he knows where I live, and given my experience dealing with people with obsessive behaviors, I tried to be extremely careful. I thanked him for his greetings, restated that I am not interested, and asked him to respect my decision and space. Ended the text with another thank you and wished him well.
UNFORTUNATELY, he only saw this as an invitation to message more. He even started to guilt trip me for being an elitist, that he “understands we are people from different levels,” I am rejecting him because I don’t see him as a match.
OH MY F-ING LORD, what’s wrong with people!?! Or is this a NYC thing? Is this city really trying to get rid of me? Then, on a different subject, WHAT THE F’s WRONG WITH MEN!?!?!? No means no! I told him to stop, and he said, “but I am just being friendly.” OMG OMG OMG. I am preparing an email to the company that sent him, and if it needed be, I think I will have to file a police report. In NYC, stalking is a crime, I think it even includes cyber stalking. Given my recent experience, this is really making me worried, getting that feeling of unsafe again. Flattery turned into creepiness. Is it really getting that difficult to be a young woman trying to live and make a career in a city? I am not a celebrity, and I don’t have the money to hire a full time body guard.
